very brief word for those who may not know, we Hobbits are a little people, about three feet tall, who live in a glorious little land known simply as "The Shire".  There are so many things to tell you that I could spend a whole month and a day telling you all about our history, our customs, and our countryside, but for now I will stick with the basics.
e Hobbits love our country, and we love maps.  This is one of the finest maps of the Shire ever made, and if you click it, you will be wisked away to see an enormous copy of it that will take a few minutes to download, but which will show you all our principle towns and villages, out woodlands and waterways, and our roads.  So be sure to spend a few minutes exploring it. You will find Hobbiton and Bywater, Tookborough and Buckland, and all the other important places you are familiar with.
he  Shire is divided up into Four provinces, which we call the "Four Farthings".  Buckland is sort of the "fifth" Farthing, but some Hobbits do no consider it part of the Shire Proper because it was developed by the Brandybuck Clan long ago, on the far side of the Brandywine River.  You can get a closer look by clicking this icon of the East Farthing, which is where I live.  You will notice the western boundary is marked by the Three Farthing Stone, which Mister Gandalf tells us is actually a meteor.  Whatever it is, the East, West and South Farthings have several annual events centered around the Stone.
nd last but by no means least is the humble Village of Frogmorton, where I live at #6 Grassy Way,

Frogmorton's biggest claim to fame is the Floating Log Inn, one of the best taverns in all of East Farthing, second only to the famous Golden Perch in Stock, and just as fine as the Green Dragon next door in Bywater. I will shortly be making a detailed map of my village, so that you can see where everything is in much better detail.

This is the Frogmorton flag , and it isn't hard to see why a frog is our emblem.  Living so close to the Waterand the marshy island in the middle, we listen to singing frogs almost everynight, unless it is very cold.  The big frogs' legs also make good eating.  It really only flies by the tavern, the little post office, and the Shirrif's station.  That's about all, but we like it anyway.
This is the South Farthing flag .  This part of the Shire is famous for its pipeweed farms, many of which belong to the Took family.
This is the East Farthing flag, which is my home.  Among other things, our region is famous for its big mushroom farms.
This is the West Farthing flag.  The West farthing is said to be the bread basket of the Shire, so the flag depicts grains of wheat.
This is the North Farthing flag.  This Farthing is famous for its fine evergreen trees and its lumber.
Buckland is unique in the Shire in that it has both a flag and a tartan.  And unlike many of the larger towns in the four farthings, there are no local flags for the towns and villages.  All of Buckland flies the same banner -- but only the Brandybucks can wear the tartan.
This is the flag of the Shire, which each of the four Farthings represented. It flies in many prominent places throughout the Shire, and a copy of it hangs in the Halls
of the King, at Minas Tirith as well.
